Bookstagram Hashtags: Tips for Instagram

Hashtags make it easy to categorize an Instagram post. You (and others) can “follow” them (like you would a user) and/or search for them in the search bar.

You can use up to 30 hashtags per Instagram post.

You can place hashtags in the photo caption or in a comment. Putting them in the comments hides them better.

You should not repeatedly use the exact same group of hashtags per Instagram’s hashtag guidelines.

You should use an array of relevant hashtags that have small, medium, and large usage overall. For example, if you use a larger, more general hashtag, like #book, it will be seen by more people immediately. But, it will get pushed down the results page fast.

So, if you also use smaller hashtags, your post will stay near the top of results longer. This means that people are more likely to continue to see it over time. This is why it’s good to mix it up.

There is some intel that the hashtags #book and #books may be banned from Instagram. If you use them, your post may be “shadow banned.” This means it won’t show up in the feed or for other hashtags you use on the post. I have removed these hashtags below to play it safe.

7 Bookstagram Hashtag Groups to Copy and Paste

list of trending bookstagram hashtags.

Given the above guidelines for hashtags, I created seven groups of hashtags below that you can copy and paste onto Instagram quickly and easily.

Each group contains a mix of 25 small, medium, and large hashtags. I included 25 (not the maximum of 30, hashtags) because you can then add up to five more very specific and unique hashtags to your post.

I recommend that you mix up the order in which you use each grouping so that we all aren’t using the same hashtags on the same days of the week.

  1. Hi! This is SO helpful. Thank you. One quick reminder/comment… I recently learned that hashtags should have each word capitalized in order to make hashtags more accessible for those who use screen readers.

    1. I’m glad this is helpful! It helps me on a daily basis as well. I have not heard any intel on that, but sometimes I use capital letters at the start of each word for readability if I am using a hashtag within a caption. Otherwise, I just use small letters.

  2. Thank you for taking time to create this. I have a rec for more specific hashtags: audiobooks.
